The nailgun and super-nail gun are effective against most opponents, but gobble up their Nine Inch Nails-branded ammo that you may need for a more powerful adversary. You're never short of ammo for the two shotguns, but they want for stopping power, forcing you to get up close to Quake's primarily melee-focussed enemies. This is most evident with the grenade launcher, whose brilliantly bouncy bombs can be the source of a satisfying trickshot or an embarrassing demise, but all of Quake's firearms are subtly infused with risk and reward. Indeed, Dimension of the Machine helped me appreciate some aspects of Quake's design I previously hadn't considered, like how every weapon is designed with its own in-built gambit. The weapons and enemy roster are the same, and every creative decision is intended to showcase Quake's combat engine. While Machine Games lets its imagination loose in the level design, the core mechanics are completely unchanged. Health pickups are also rarer than in the main campaign, while the weapon roster is shuffled with each stage, meaning you'll frequently be fighting Shamblers with nothing but a shotgun and a smile.Īlthough bold in its flavour combinations, nothing in Dimension of the Machine feels out of place. Dimension of the Machine is more than happy to trap you in a chamber with two Shamblers and a Vore, or surround you with grenade-spitting Ogres while a squad of Death Knights chases you around the room. But Machine Games has clearly trained at the Doom Eternal school of nightmarish enemy combinations. Playing on standard difficulty, I breezed through Quake's main campaign. Dimension of the Machine is one tough nut, certainly compared to the base game. That said, Stonemasons best exemplifies Dimension of the Machine's other key difference from Quake – challenge. Dimensions of the Stonemasons is a nondescript warren of grey corridors, lacking the personality of the other levels. Dimension of the Astrologers, meanwhile, is a cross between Half-Life's Xen and System Shock 2's Von Braun, with you darting between rocks floating amidst a purplish dimensional void, before finding yourself trapped on an industrial prison-ship being torn apart by Quake's eldritch monstrosities. From here, you gradually descend through layers of undercrofts and catacombs before emerging into a fathomless orange abyss. Dimension of the Cultists, for example, commences with you stood outside a cathedral perched on a sheer clifftop. Machine Games' Quake levels are every bit as complex and secret-riddled as id's 1996 masterpieces. Crucially though, the grander visuals don't come at the cost of interesting level design.

It seemed quite capable of handling cases of serious underexposure, blown-out skies and details, high-ISO noise. In an attempt to speed up my workflow, I tested DXO Optics 8 and found that its automatic adjustments were, in most cases, quite satisfactory. I was never able to find any way to make the process faster (occasionally I was able to copy and paste edits to photos shot under similar lighting conditions) Perhaps there is no other real solution other than to edit one by one. I have been doing manual correction of photos in AfterShot Pro, and am quite pleased with its results and UI, but have found it painfully slow to correct each photo one by one. The catalogue feature in ASP was also not useful to me- it corrupted many times, and everything I added to it was lost. Additionally, ASP does not seem very adept at allowing the user to create detailed, nested keywords and apply them easily. I was using the keyword manager to create keyword tree-lists, but every time I re-organized the keyword trees, the assigned keywords were messed up. I have about 50,000 photos, most of which are directly related to my phd research on the revival of folk customs and martial arts societies in rural China. Like many other ASP fans, I fear that the program will be abandoned by Corel and am seeking out an alternative. Hi Chris, I'm using ASP now but also finding that it simply is not capable of properly cataloguing nor does it have a good method for adding nested keywords. What a pity! I really love the speed and workflow flexibility of ASP. Now I am also waiting for iMatch 5 to arrive because using ASP for cataloging my images doesn't make sense. I ended up buying a PhotoNinja license because of the superior results I got (finally I switched to shoot solely RAW). I tried LR, DxO and CaptureOne - the results have not convinced me and the workflow/user interface experience was underwhelming compared to Aftershot. Maybe I haven't invested enough time or the different camera profiles do make a difference!?Īnyway - as Aftershot is not supporting my camera model I had to look for a different raw converter. Interesting because my experience was the other way around. I keep checking the forums here hoping Corel will do something with ASP as I loved some of the plugins but my IQ is far better with DxO. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles but for my needs it's great. I do a lot of 6-700 image folders (sports) and selecting and processing flies. IQ is fantastic and batch processing is the easiest I've found yet. However I found out I can reference my files from my database and don't have to import anything. I had put off trying it because all the reviews I read said you have to, essentially, import into "projects" which I didn't want to do. I tried out a bunch of editors and ended up trying DxO's Optic Pro 8 and was wowed by what it did with my D800 files. Hi andrewh, I tried all kinds of settings with PN and while it gave pretty good results for most situations it wasn't stellar. When I asked about manipulating curves, they came back with some simple suggestions that mimic the results really well. If you are having problems, just drop an email to support and they will come back with suggested workflows to reduce your problem. So much less work and so much better support than ASP. Have you used the Portrait preset in Photo Ninja and been cautious with the detail slider? I started with some problems but am now very happy with PN - indeed I bought a licence yesterday. Ormdig wrote: The other editor that seemed promising but over time I haven't much cared for what happens to the flesh tones upon sharpening is Photo Ninja. Does it work ok on jpegs and do you lose much resolution? Does the batch processing give good results on similar images or do you have to use it only on almost identical images? Thanks, Pete. I looked at the web site for Neat Image but don't recall if it supported tiffs. The other editor that seemed promising but over time I haven't much cared for what happens to the flesh tones upon sharpening is Photo Ninja. Capture NX2 gives good results but they haven't done anything with it in ages and the UI is awful. if I want to print larger than 11x14 the noise will show up. I shoot lots of small gym/poor lighting sports and while ISO 4000 with the D800 is not bad at all. I have been using Nikon's VNx2 with good results for just simple processing, especially color rendition, but it doesn't contain noise reduction. i might revert back to the last version at some point to see if it will work. Ianr, how do you like Neat image? I have had to give up (temporarily I hope) on ASP, it just can't process my D800 files without getting slower and slower and finally stopping. I own both noise reduction systems and prefer Neat Image far more than Noise Ninja. Ianr wrote:Well if neat Image noise reduction could be added. Like from the depths(FTD) weapon systems has lots of improvement with creating and engineering better weapons for your ships. And the weapon systems combination would be okay too. And their logic gate systems would be cool to have in this game as well as their rail systems for moving hangar air lock doors, or trains and build mechs with it too. The griefing factor potential is off the charts, so I don't see that as a balanced option. Now that I think of it, what do you guys think if Empyrion would have some functionality of the other games we play wouldn't it make it better or not? But for me I think if Empyrion would take somethings from the others games and improve it here the community will grow and more players will buy the game, lets take for example starmade, players there don't like prefab objects they would like to shape it out with blocks and other shapes. Makes me wish there is a way to Hack other factions space stations, so this sort of haywire could be done in times of war. it was some of the most exciting game play I've had happen in a sandbox game. I made it to my docked ship, and rocketed out to safety.īut I have to tell you Schemax. I made a daring escape by hitting gravity, and dropping down the plex lift chute, and running across eroding hull amidst a hail of AMC blast all aimed at my head. I didn't remember that it was I that was also factioned. In a panic I thought I could pull the faction block to make it stop. I respawn inside the space station, which is being blasted apart from every direction thanks to smart turret placement. I got caught out in open space without a ship (because I had just been trying to faction the turrets a moment before) and was blown to smithereens! My drone patrol ships turned on me as well. I blame myself for not getting all of my components factioned up quick enough.Ī pirate cruised by, and caused my 8 turrets to eject from their moorings, and declare war on the space station I had been renovating. This happened to me as well, but it also ended up being a very exciting bit of gameplay. Oh and get rid of the condescending tone, it's rude and I feel less inclined to help you when you use it. I'd say everyone should put faction blocks on their ship to stop this happening in the future but to fix the problem over all the turrets need to be much more customizable, I think they should have to be linked up to a computer console on your ship where you can go to access them, there will be a list of all the turrets with their settings so you don't have to change every single one, one at a time every time some random shoots at you.Īnd if you did have a faction block on B I apologize, I have no idea what caused it. I'm pretty sure I'm correct and you've misread my comments because I have read nothing about ship B having a faction module, not that it's your fault, it's just alpha and no one had considered this problem. Ship A and all it's turrets where in a faction but your new ship wasn't correct? so when it attacked the other ship it set "no faction" to hostile, so you got in your new ship (ship B) that didn't have a faction block on it and ship A naturally attacked it because default faction is now hostile.Īs far as ship A knew, ship B was hostile. The bezel has no ceramic inlay, as it might seem at first sight, but boasts an ADLC (Amorfous Diamond Like Carbon) treated aluminum ring to give it a sort of lacquered like look and feel. The Cartier Calibre de Cartier Diver is 42mm wide and just 11m thick, so to make it an everyday watch, as we are accustomed with any Cartier, thanks to the small size of caliber 1904MC, mechanical automatic with the balance wheel vibrating at 4Hz and 48 hours of power reserve. It is, most probably, for Diver’s watches are so well sealed the mixed gas (Helium and Oxygen) never gets into the case while diving. Gaps between parts are very tight the unidirectional 120-notch bezel has a precise click and, moreover, if you place on a table three different diver’s watches one along the others, you may easily notice, I don’t know if it’s by chance or not, that none of them boasts a helium escape valve. Each Cartier Calibre de Cartier Diver must undergo and pass numerous tests. It’s all about a long series of very rigorous and complex tests to demand such a robust design, you can easily perceive it once you are hands on with it and compare it with any other Water Resistant wristwatch. What distinguishes then the Cartier Calibre de Cartier Diver from any other Water Resistant timepiece in this sector?Ī Water Resistant timepiece is, in a nutshell, tested with air and a production batch is usually spot checked, while with an ISO 6425 certified one, just to cite a few, all the production batch is fully checked, each wristwatch is tested at a 125% of the rated maximum depth (300m in this case) and for an extended period of time in water. This certification is not so rare in watchmaking, at least outside Europe as you may easily verify that nearly all the Japanese sport watches usually boast the lettering “ Diver’s” in replacement of the “ Water Resistant” one on the dial or on their tech sheet. The Cartier Calibre de Cartier Diver is an ISO 6425 compliant professional diver’s watch. It was anyway quite clear to me to be honest, as I’m not a consummate blogger but rather come from the Durable Consumer Goods sector: all the brands of the Richemont Group’s portfolio are independent and even if they share some technologies and parts, each follows its own product strategy, in compliance with its tradition and brand identity. According to this website about Iowa history, "in Le Claire, Iowa, four women who were overheard speaking German on a party line were arrested and fined." The Proclamation made it illegal to use any language other than English in schools, in public places, or over the telephone. Probably the most egregious example of one of these statutes was the so-called "Babel Proclamation" issued by Iowa Governor William Harding in May 1918. Nebraska dealt with one such law, a Nebraska statute passed in 1919 which forbade the teaching of German (or teaching in German) in Nebraska's schools. I can tell you a little bit about the American half of this story.ĭuring and after World War One, anti-German feelings in the United States reached an absurdly intense fever pitch and culminated in several state and local laws and ordinances restricting or punishing the use of the German language. (Incidentally, if you'd like a side of schadenfreude with that, the OP question "What do atheists say when someone sneezes?" gets asked on every atheism forum about once a week, and always triggers the same cascade of halfwit responses.) My best guess is that in the WWI era there may have been a jingoistic local ordinance or several in the USA or England making "Gesundheit" and/or other German expressions illegal, and that memory of this has gotten distorted. (It's mentioned on a discussion page, but apparently didn't incite any discussion.) Snopes doesn't appear to formally confirm or refute this anywhere. Googled "Gesundheit" + "illegal", which gets about 1,500,000 hits - nothing that I looked at seems reliable. I challenged poster for a cite, and got this, which is basically "Biff's Page of Random Cool Facts!" "During World War I it was made illegal to say Gesundheit, and that law has never been repealed."
